Imported Image Reveal Options

Examples of different Doodly drawing options also known as Doodly image reveal options.

This document focuses on the different native type of reveal methods in Doodly for large imported images. There are exceptions to this documentation such as it is okay to scribble in smaller images as long as the duration doesn’t stay at the default of 3s and scribbles don’t look bad on chalkboard with a chalk. This documentation mainly refers to whiteboard as the canvas type.

Scribbling

This type of reveal refers to the default reveal when an image is imported into Doodly. There are no reveal paths added at this point so Doodly doesn’t know what to do with the image so it scribbles it into the canvas from the lack of direction. This is not a professional appearance and is not a desired item for your viewers to view. Would you rather watch something that has this interfering arm obstructing your view wildly scribbling back and forth in an unrealistic manner or would you rather watch something that looks like it is being drawn onto the canvas from an artist?

Fading


Smooth Fading

This is an easy option that natively with Doodly to fade an asset into the canvas. Fading happens 2 different ways depending if an imported or Doodly provided image is being faded. If it is an imported image, Doodly will fade the entire image. If it is a Doodly provided SVG asset file then the outline will be revealed first and then the rest of the item will fade. The fading option is only available if the rainbow addon has been purchased.

Appearance

This refers to setting the image or character assets duration to 0. Doodly will listen to the amount in the delay and then make the asset just appear in its place. This is an excellent timesaver or for an asset that you may not want focus on but still want it to show on the canvas such as an office or living space background.

Reveal Paths

These are the instructions that tells Doodly where to place the reveval arm and the path that it should follow, how much pressure to apply when the reveal is happening and when the reveal arm should let up and start revealing a different section like an artist would do.

Note:This is the most advanced and professional appearance for revealing an image in Doodly. This is the reason that viewers say WOW look at that 98% of the time. This section is the power of Doodly. Master these and you’re on your way to becoming a professional doodler.

When you bring a new picture into the software without setting up specific directions, the program defaults to a scribbling motion. This happens because the software lacks guidance on how to properly draw the item, resulting in an erratic and unprofessional look on a whiteboard canvas.

The way a picture fades depends on its source. If you bring in your own picture, the entire graphic will fade in at once. However, if you use a file provided by the software, the outer lines will be drawn first before the rest of the colors blend in. Keep in mind that you need a specific add on to use this fading effect.

The software does not have a built in feature to make items fade away from the canvas. You will need to use a specific workaround or technique to create the illusion of an asset smoothly disappearing.

You can make a background or any other asset instantly appear on the screen by changing its draw time to zero. The program will wait for any delay you set and then instantly place the picture on the canvas, which saves time and keeps the viewers attention on the main subjects.

Reveal paths are custom directions you create to tell the virtual hand exactly how to sketch a picture. By setting these paths, you control the movement and pressure of the drawing tool, which creates a highly realistic and professional artistic effect that impresses viewers.
